About The Centaora Group
The Centaora Group is a distinctive space where people, organisations and ideas are strengthened to respond thoughtfully to a changing world. We combine capacity development, strategic intelligence, communication and practical digital creation. Our work moves between insight and application: understanding what is changing, building the capability to respond and creating tools, content and experiences that are genuinely useful.
Our guiding idea is simple: Build capacity. Understand change. Create what matters. It shapes what we offer, how we work with clients and partners, and how we invite specialists to contribute. Centaora is being built as an open, globally relevant platform with a strong human character: warm in its relationships, rigorous in its thinking and purposeful in what it brings into the world.
These roles form part of Centaora's strategic specialist network. Each contributor brings depth in a defined area while remaining connected to the wider direction of the Group. The model is designed for experienced people who value autonomy, thoughtful collaboration and the opportunity to influence work from an early stage.
Our core areas
Build capacity
We help individuals, teams and organisations strengthen the knowledge, confidence, systems and practical tools they need to move forward. This includes learning resources, professional development, organisational capability and accessible digital products.
Understand change
We examine signals, trends and emerging needs so that decisions are informed rather than reactive. Our work connects strategic reflection, research, audience insight and responsible use of technology.
Create what matters
We turn insight into useful outcomes: products, platforms, content, partnerships and experiences that solve real problems and respect the people who use them.
How we work
- Freedom with purpose. Contributors have room to bring judgement, ideas and working methods that strengthen the agreed outcome.
- Focused contribution. Time is directed to the few priorities that can create the greatest value in each monthly cycle.
- Clear ownership. Each contributor understands the decisions, outputs and relationships they are trusted to shape.
- Evidence and learning. Recommendations are grounded in user needs, performance signals, market insight and responsible professional practice.
- Open collaboration. Specialists share context early, challenge constructively and coordinate where their work intersects.
- Respect for time. Centaora TimeTrack supports transparent planning and fair payment while preserving flexibility in how work is organised.
Shared engagement framework
- Engagement model: Flexible part-time consultancy under a renewable professional agreement
- Initial period: Three month pilot, with the intention to renew where the collaboration creates mutual value
- Time allocation: Up to 10 hours per calendar month for agreed work
- Working location: Remote and flexible, with no prescribed daily schedule
- Reporting: Founder and Executive Director
- Time record: Centaora TimeTrack
Monthly working rhythm
- At the start of each month, Centaora and the contributor agree the priority outcome, supporting tasks and available hours.
- The contributor organises the work independently, keeps relevant collaborators informed and raises constraints early.
- A brief end of month review captures what was completed, what was learned and what should happen next.
Time stewardship
Centaora TimeTrack will be used to record the date, task, project or product, time spent and resulting output. The purpose is to support transparent planning, fair payment and better prioritisation. It is not an online-presence monitor. Contributors retain freedom over when and how they work, provided that agreed deadlines, quality standards and coordination needs are met.
The allocation is capped at 10 hours per month unless additional time is approved in writing before it is worked. Substantive meetings and requested advisory sessions count toward the allocation. Unused hours do not automatically carry forward. Major campaigns, product sprints or assignments that sit outside the core allocation may be commissioned under a separate scope.
Shared professional expectations
- Exercise sound professional judgement and take ownership of agreed outcomes.
- Bring ideas forward, question assumptions constructively and recommend a clear course of action.
- Protect confidential, commercial, client and user information.
- Use access to Centaora systems only for authorised work and follow agreed security practices.
- Create original work and respect third party intellectual property, licences and attribution requirements.
- Document key decisions and leave work in a form that others can understand and continue.
- Disclose actual or potential conflicts of interest promptly.
Ownership and recognition
Work commissioned and paid for by Centaora will be owned by The Centaora Group unless a written agreement states otherwise. Centaora values visible, respectful collaboration and may recognise contributors publicly where appropriate and mutually agreed. Confidential methods, commercial plans, source code, credentials and client information may not be disclosed or reused without authorisation.
Purpose of the role
The Product Engineer will help Centaora turn useful ideas into secure, dependable and intuitive digital experiences. The role provides technical continuity across Centaora's WordPress products and related systems while helping the Founder make informed decisions about feasibility, quality and future development.
What this role will shape
This role shapes the technical health and evolution of Centaora's digital products. It balances user needs, commercial direction, maintainability and security, ensuring that product decisions support sustainable growth rather than isolated features.
Core responsibilities
- Maintain and improve Centaora's WordPress plugins, web applications and authorised integrations.
- Investigate and resolve agreed priority defects, reliability issues and performance concerns.
- Translate clearly defined product requirements and user feedback into proportionate technical solutions.
- Develop small, well scoped enhancements within the monthly allocation.
- Support integrations involving payments, email, APIs, document generation, verification and analytics where commissioned.
- Test changes across relevant workflows before release and document known limitations.
- Apply appropriate security, privacy, access control and coding practices.
- Maintain orderly source code, versions, release notes and essential technical documentation.
- Advise early when a request carries technical debt, security risk or effort beyond the approved scope.
Indicative monthly contribution
The monthly workplan will normally combine the following contributions within the approved allocation. Priorities may be adjusted as Centaora learns, launches and grows.
- Review and action of the agreed highest value technical priorities.
- One defined maintenance package, minor enhancement or technical sprint, depending on complexity.
- Testing and concise release notes for completed changes.
- An updated technical backlog that distinguishes urgent, important and future work.
- Clear advice on risks, dependencies and the most sensible next build decision.
Performance signals
- Products remain stable, secure and understandable to users and administrators.
- Approved changes solve the underlying need without unnecessary complexity.
- Technical risks and dependencies are surfaced early and explained plainly.
- Releases are tested, documented and recoverable through appropriate version control.
- The backlog helps Centaora direct development time to the greatest user and business value.
Professional profile
- Strong experience in PHP, WordPress development, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and databases.
- Experience developing and maintaining secure plugins and API integrations.
- Familiarity with version control, testing, debugging and deployment practices.
- Experience with payments, PDF generation, email delivery, verification or subscription products is valuable.
- Ability to communicate technical options and trade offs clearly to a non technical decision maker.
Freedom and accountability in the role
The Engineer has freedom to recommend architecture, simplify requirements and propose a safer or more maintainable route to the desired outcome. The core allocation is intended for continuity, informed prioritisation and focused improvements. Significant new features, major redesigns or intensive incident recovery may be commissioned as separate product sprints after scope, timing and cost are agreed.

What this role will shape

Core responsibilities
- Translate Centaora's direction, products and emerging ideas into clear communication priorities.

Freedom and accountability in the role
The Lead is trusted to recommend priorities, refine briefs, introduce better approaches and challenge activities that do not serve Centaora's direction.
